Program details

Overview

The degree combines specialized coursework that lets students apply mathematical skills across diverse fields, with options spanning further careers or continued education. Coursework addresses how mathematics evolves through new theories and solutions to problems across engineering, business, and both the natural and social sciences, engaging data via measurement, observation, inferential reasoning, deduction, and formal proof. Students choose among three possible concentrations: mathematics education, computational mathematics, and biomathematics.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: KPU's calendar entry for the Bachelor of Science, Major in Applications of Mathematics states only that the Faculty of Science's admission requirement applies, and that requirement consists solely of KPU's undergraduate English Proficiency Requirement; the programme page adds no further academic prerequisite for direct entry. Applicants are admitted under one of KPU's five categories — High School, Transfer, Mature, Indigenous or Access — set out on the university's own admissions page, with identical academic and English standards for domestic and international applicants. That requirement is met by BC English Studies 12, English First Peoples 12 or Literary Studies 12 at a minimum grade of C+ (or IB English HL/SL at 3, or AP English Language/Literature at 2), or by one of IELTS Academic overall 6.5 with no band below 6.0, TOEFL iBT 88 with no sub-score below 20, PTE Academic 61, CAEL 70 with no sub-score below 60, or Duolingo English Test 110, each taken within two years of the admission term. Declaring the Applications of Mathematics major itself, once enrolled, separately requires 24 credits including MATH 1220 at a minimum grade of C or MATH 1230 at a minimum grade of C+, plus a cumulative GPA of 2.0, but that is a later degree-declaration step rather than a condition of initial admission.

Application Details

Start Date: September, January and May
Application Deadline: KPU classifies most programs as Open Intake, meaning every applicant who meets minimum institutional requirements is admitted without ranking, while a smaller set of Limited Intake programs closes earlier. For the Fall 2027 (September) term, both domestic and international applications open on 1 October 2026; Limited Intake programs have a firm deadline of 1 March 2027 and may close earlier if demand is high, while Open Intake programs stay open on a rolling basis through a confirmation-deposit deadline of 15 June 2027 to a final cutoff of 1 July 2027. Spring (January) and Summer (May) entry follow the same open/limited pattern on an earlier timeline, and KPU applies identical deadlines to domestic and international applicants throughout. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
