Overview

This diploma is accelerated into a single year for students who meet the program's admission requirements, condensing what is otherwise a longer course of study. Teaching centres on the therapeutic recreation process, preparing graduates to work with people facing physical, cognitive, emotional or social limitations, helping them acquire and maintain the skills, knowledge and behaviours needed to enjoy leisure, function as independently as possible, and take part as fully as they can in society, with the broader goal of supporting quality of life and health through meaningful participation in recreation.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: This accelerated Ontario College Diploma is a post-credential pathway: applicants must hold a college diploma or university degree in a field such as Developmental Service Worker, Child & Youth Care, Social Service Worker, Early Childhood Education, or a similar program, and/or a degree in a health-related field. The programme page notes that additional coursework may be required depending on the relevance of the applicant's prior diploma or degree, but does not state a minimum admission average for this assessment. International applicants must also meet Lambton College's institution-wide English-language proficiency requirement for diploma and certificate programs: IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with no band below 6.0 (one skill retake accepted), TOEFL iBT 78, PTE Academic 60, CAEL 60 with no band below 50, CELPIP General 7, or Duolingo English Test 105, among the other tests the college accepts; scores must be dated within the last two years.
