In this course students explore a variety of quality assurance protocols as they apply to course development. The concept of piloting to gather students and instructor feedback is also discussed. CSCP-1453 LMS Platforms This course is designed to introduce students to Learning Management Systems (LMS), and familiarize them with the tools available. The importance of well-designed templates and ease of navigation will be investigated. Learners will develop a module in an LMS platform during this learning experience to demonstrate a key learning outcome. AED-1073 Universal Design for Learning & Accessibility for Online Learning To ensure that all learners can meet the course and program learning outcomes, it is critical to include the principles of Universal Design for Learning and accessibility when designing online learning programs. In this course, students will apply appropriate universal design for learning practices, by using appropriate online learning materials. In addition, students will learn about relevant accessibility laws in order to recommend strategies to ensure AODA compliance for all online content. ASLN-1002 Create a Basic eLearning Module with Storyline Create a Basic eLearning Module with Storyline is an online, competency-based introductory level micro-credential designed to teach eLearning design principles and basic features used in the industry standard software, Storyline 360. Learners will interact with eLearning Developer experts as they familiarize themselves with basic components of Storyline 360, identify key design principles, and learn the importance of AODA (Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act) guidelines to create basic eLearning modules. Some of the topics that will be covered include story size settings, timeline and states, layers, triggers, button sets, and basic eLearning content design. Create a Basic eLearning Module with Storyline is ideal for Human Resources, training, and educational professionals who are new to eLearning and want to acquire foundational development skills using industry-standard eLearning software. Upon successful completion of this micro-credential, learners will be well-equipped to progress to the Create Interactive eLearning Elements with Storyline micro-credential. Upon completion of this micro-credential, learners will be well-equipped to progress to the Use Instructional Design Concepts to Create a Short eLearning Course micro-credential. ASLN-3002 Use Instructional Design Concepts to Create a Short Elearning Course Use Instructional Design Concepts to Create a Short eLearning Course is an online competency-based advanced level micro-credential designed to support learners in the creation of an eLearning course that adheres to instructional design and eLearning principles, quality, accessibility and copyright standards. Learners will be required to complete a "learner profile," identify measurable learning outcomes, create a "storyboard" and eLearning course, and design a course shell within a Learning Management System that addresses quality eLearning standards for online learning environments. This micro-credential is ideal for corporate, public sector, and educational professionals who possess working knowledge of eLearning content authoring software and want to enhance their skills using industry-standard software. AED-1083 E-Learning Tools The selection of appropriate eLearning tools is a vital part of the online learning development process. By working on their own projects, students gain hands-on experience with current web-based eLearning tools through the process of analyzing learner needs, obtaining input from subject matter experts, and finally selecting and using the right tool. The focus of this course is to learn to develop meaningful and engaging online material with an understanding of how eLearning tools support various learning objectives. CTA-1203 Alignment and Assessment Strategies Design backward and build forward is an important instructional design principle. This course will explore the importance of aligning assessments to course and module outcomes. Activities and exercises which scaffold to the formative or summative assessments are discussed. The course also speaks to how to use quizzes and pre or post assessments effectively by keeping an eye to instructional design principles. Term 2 CTA-1003 Adult Learning Within the Adult Learning course students are provided practical insight on key adult learning theories. Students examine the characteristics of adult learners that affect learning, explore the emotional, cognitive, social and physical aspects of learning, study a variety of learning cycles, and identify their own preferred learning style. Finally, this course introduces strategies and models of facilitation to accommodate the variety of ways in which adults prefer to learn. CTA-1043 Assessment & Evaluation You will gain an overview of the processes involved in assessment and evaluation. A variety of types of evaluation will be utilized in order to understand and meet the needs of learners and stakeholders. Learners will be encouraged to evaluate your own practice as a teacher or trainer in their environment. CSCP-1493 Multimedia for Elearning Developers There is abundant research demonstrating that not all students learn the same way and therefore it is important to cater to a variety of modalities when designing online educational materials. By identifying the purpose of multimedia design, students will create a short learning unit that demonstrates their understanding of best practices and skills in audio, video, and graphic design. Students will also learn copyright law as it pertains to educational use of materials. CTA-1033 Instructional Design Methods for Delivery In today's complex learning environment, the most successful instructors/trainers demonstrate instructional strategies that both respect and challenge adult learners. Through lectures, discussion (synchronous and asynchronous) and various assignments, you will explore a wide variety of instructional techniques including: lecture, group discussion, demonstration, icebreakers, case study, brainstorming, debate, fishbowl, collage, role-play, panel discussions and skits. Factors affecting the selection of techniques will also be addressed. Participants will demonstrate their mastery of instructional techniques through the design and online delivery of a lesson. Some of the most common instructional strategies include co-operative learning, problem-based learning, active learning, classroom management issues and the use of media and resources. CTA-1123 Employee Training & Development This graduate certificate course provides participants with an introduction to theories of education and learning as they pertain to training and development. The concepts of need, needs analysis, program planning, and program development will be explored. Emphasis will be on establishing training/learning objectives, selecting appropriate training methods, implementation strategies, teaching techniques, and program evaluation. CPT-4333 Introduction to Project Management Project management practitioners need to understand the established industry norms, methods, and practices for managing all stages of the project life cycle and its related processes. Students are introduced to the fundamental principles of project management, such as project strategy, selection, scheduling, risk management, quality assurance, performance measurement, audit and closure. By participating in discussions, analyzing readings, and conducting preliminary research, students acquire a working understanding of project management knowledge and theory. ELD-3084 Capstone Project In this course students showcase knowledge and skills gained from prior program courses. To complete the capstone project, students create a captivating online showcase of their instructional design work. From project planning to peer review, students will develop the skills to build a standout portfolio or website that communicates their expertise. The product of this work will display projects effectively, incorporate multimedia elements, and provide clear navigation. Students will provide elements of the site piece by piece and receive feedback before incorporating them. Once the project is complete, learners will conduct a review on a peer project to complete the learning cycle. This collaborative approach to learning encourages students to reflect and incorporate feedback into their vision for developing as an e-Learning specialist, through completion of the Capstone Project. By course end, students will have an online professional showcase that highlights skills and sets them apart in the eLearning industry. This course is pass/fail.
