Overview

The Bachelor of Arts in English develops readers, writers, and critical thinkers who engage with culture, history, and language through traditional and contemporary literary studies. The 120-credit degree includes an English major of 42 to 60 credits, with a minimum of 36 at the senior level, and students may pursue one or two minors or a secondary major in an Arts or Science discipline. The curriculum spans a range of literary genres and time periods across cultures, includes options in creative writing up to a maximum of 9 credits, and requires 3 credits in Canadian or Indigenous Literature. The program runs on a semester basis with Fall, Winter, and Spring-Summer offerings and is delivered on-campus at MacEwan University's City Centre Campus in Edmonton, typically completed over four years of full-time study.

Minimum GPA: 65.00 / %
Admission Requirements: Regular admission requires a minimum overall average of 65 percent, with no course grade lower than 50 percent, in English Language Arts 30-1 and four additional subjects. Mature applicants who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents aged 20 or older require English Language Arts 30-1 with a minimum grade of 65 percent, or three credits of university-level English, including ENGL 111 from MacEwan University, with a minimum grade of C.
