Overview
The English program at McGill covers three linked subjects: English literature, drama and cultural studies, letting students explore all three broadly while specializing in one area. The Cultural Studies option teaches students to analyze forms of cultural expression and symbolic interaction, examining how cultural meaning is produced, shared and transformed. Coursework draws on cultural theory, the history of literature and film, and critical approaches to media, developing analytical and interpretive skills alongside a broad knowledge of symbolic form and aesthetic analysis. The program is offered by the Faculty of Arts, with applicants admitted directly to that faculty.
