Overview
This program leads to a Bachelor of Engineering with a major in ocean and naval architectural engineering, offered by the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science on the St. John's campus. It combines two related disciplines: ocean engineering, which covers the design and analysis of equipment and structures used to operate on or beneath the ocean, and naval architecture, which covers the design and construction of ships and other floating or submersible vessels. Coursework spans structural analysis, hydrodynamics, marine systems design, fluid and solid mechanics, hydrostatics, oceanography, and the behaviour of water waves. The degree follows a five-year structure, consisting of the common first-year Engineering One before four years in the major, and includes a mandatory co-operative education component giving students up to two years of engineering work experience before graduation; the program is described as the only co-operative program of its kind offered anywhere. Students are admitted directly from high school or after completing Engineering One, subject to the Faculty's general entry requirements. Requirements
Admission Requirements: This programme page defers to the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science's own admission requirements rather than stating separate figures for the Ocean and Naval Architectural Engineering major. Entry is through the common Engineering One first year: the Faculty reviews grades in five Grade 12 courses (Pre-Calculus 3208, Advanced Mathematics 3200, Physics 3204, Chemistry 3202 and English Language Arts 3201), and grades above 80% in these courses are normally required for consideration; Newfoundland and Labrador applicants need Advanced Mathematics 3200 at a minimum of 75%, while out-of-province applicants need an equivalent Grade 12 advanced-mathematics course at 75% or better (IB Higher Level Mathematics 5, IB Standard Level Mathematics 4, or AP Calculus AB/BC 3 or higher are also accepted). Applicants whose first language is not English must meet Memorial's university-wide English proficiency requirement: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0 in Reading and Writing, or TOEFL iBT 83 overall with at least 20 in Reading and Writing.

Application Deadline:Memorial University's undergraduate application system opens one year ahead of each semester for the 2027 cycle: for Fall 2027 entry the portal opens 10 September 2026, the priority deadline (also the early-entrance-scholarship deadline) is 1 March 2027, the document deadline is 20 August 2027, and applications finally close 9 September 2027; Winter 2027 entry has a priority deadline of 1 October 2026 and closes 6 January 2027; Spring 2027 entry closes 11 May 2027 with a priority date of 1 February 2027. International applicants use the same direct application to Memorial and are only advised to apply at least 12 weeks before their intended semester starts; no fixed international closing date is published. Late domestic applications are still considered as time, resources and space permit, so admission is effectively rolling past the priority date up to the final close. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
