Overview
An in-depth training program focused on developing diagnostic, repair, and maintenance skills for motive power systems. Are you looking for a great career in the automotive industry that is rewarding, pays well, and is always changing? This is it! Mohawk’s 2 year program is one of the few that fully prepares you to enter the automotive trade and exempts you from all 3 levels of AST schooling. We offer an in-depth experiential based training program, focused on developing diagnostic, repair, maintenance and computer skills for automotive and light truck systems. Program Highlights You will gain the skills needed to obtain entry-level employment in the automotive industry.Curriculum is modelled after the Automotive Service Technician (310S) apprenticeship program.This is a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) program where you will learn, and then apply, automotive skills in a shop environment.Graduates of the Motive Power Technician program may be eligible for exemptions of the in-school training portion of the Automotive Service Technician (310S) Apprenticeship Program, provided a minimum grade of 60% is achieved in all automotive reportable subjects. However, eligibility is not guaranteed and is subject to approvals by relevant governing bodies.What you'll learnHands-on experiential learning to analyze and solve motive power system problems in a fully equipped, shop environment.Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical and electronic components and systems using a variety of troubleshooting techniques while utilizing the latest in tools, equipment and technology.Safe work practices and skills in project management, shop management, quality control and assurance.Enhance communication, customer service and computer skills. Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent (Mohawk Academic Upgrading or GED accepted), including Grade 12 English at the C, U or equivalent level and Grade 10 Mathematics at the D or P level. Mohawk offers alternative options for mature applicants who do not meet these standard prerequisites. Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate proficiency through one of: successful completion of the GAS-English for Academic Purposes (478) program, a TOEFL score of 550 paper-based or 80 internet-based, an IELTS Academic overall score of 6.0 with no band below 5.5, or a Duolingo English Test score of 105-110 with no section below 100; further acceptable certificates are listed on the International Admission Requirements page. No portfolio, interview or GPA requirement is stated on the program's admission page.

Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through Ontario Colleges: for a September start Mohawk's equal-consideration date is 1 February (1 February 2027 for the next fall intake), and for a January start it is 1 June; after either date, files are considered first-come, first-served while seats remain, with permanent residents of Ontario prioritized, then other Canadian residents, then international applicants. International applicants apply via OCAS's International Application Service on a per-intake deadline rather than one annual date: for January 2027 entry, applications opened February 2026 and the submission deadline is 1 November 2026; Mohawk had not yet published a deadline for the September 2027 intake as of this check. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
