Overview
The Bachelor of Arts in English is a four-year undergraduate degree delivered on campus at Mount Royal University, with an Honours stream option for students who want to pursue more advanced independent study. The curriculum spans classic novels and contemporary works alongside popular culture, including fantasy, science fiction, crime, film, graphic novels and comics, with study ranging from Shakespeare to postcolonial writing across different eras and literary traditions. Students develop their own poetry, fiction and nonfiction writing skills as part of the coursework, can contribute to student publications and collaborate on community projects, and have access to study abroad and field school options along with faculty-supported independent research opportunities in their area of interest. The program suits students who want to build strong communication and critical thinking skills through storytelling, teaching or shaping ideas through language, preparing them for creative, academic and professional careers after graduation.
