Overview

The Master of Education (non-thesis) and Master of Arts in Education programs in Studies in Lifelong Learning engage students in exploring lifelong learning processes across social, institutional, and cultural contexts, including adult basic education, adult literacy, community development, citizenship, cross-cultural learning, women's learning, environmental education, workplace learning, post-secondary education, popular education, and continuing professional development. Courses use a critical, analytical approach to prepare students to work and learn in varied lifelong-learning contexts. The Master of Education route requires 5.0 units of coursework, including core courses in program planning and evaluation (GSLL 6200, 6206, and 6207) and a 1.0-unit capstone project course (GSLL 6290), while the Master of Arts in Education route replaces the project with a research-methods course and a 1.0-unit thesis, for 4.0 units of coursework in total; both routes may be completed full-time or part-time.

Requirements

Minimum GPA: 3.00 / 4.0
Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree or its equivalent with a minimum overall average of B (GPA 3.0). Both Master of Education and Master of Arts in Education candidates must submit a short essay outlining their reasons for undertaking graduate study in lifelong learning and demonstrate a commitment to the field through their professional or community roles. Master of Arts in Education candidates must also demonstrate advanced research and writing competencies and may be asked to submit samples of academic writing.
