Overview
The Bachelor of Professional Studies in Education at Niagara University in Ontario is a post-baccalaureate teacher-education program delivered by the College of Education at the university's Vaughan campus, accredited by the Ontario College of Teachers and offered under the consent of the Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities. Both the elementary and secondary streams run four semesters and take approximately two years to complete, combining coursework with school-based experience embedded in every term: a 10-day pre-service field experience in the first semester, a 10-day teaching assistantship in the second (each with three additional community-service days), and 40-day practicum placements in each of the third and fourth semesters. Graduates' transcripts are sent to the Ontario College of Teachers, to which candidates apply for their Certificate of Qualifications to teach in Ontario. Admission requires a completed baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution with a minimum 70% overall average, and secondary-stream applicants also need at least a 70% average in both teachable subjects. The program has a single annual Fall intake with rolling admissions, classes begin the last week of August, and it is open to domestic applicants only. Tuition is charged per credit hour in Canadian dollars.
