Overview
The Inter-professional Mental Health and Addictions Advanced Certificate is designed to provide diploma and degree holders with specialized education in the field of collaborative mental health and addictions services provided by the Northern Health Authority. Using health promotion and psychosocial rehabilitation as foundations for practice, you will engage in assessment, planning, and interventions that support complex needs. A holistic, trauma-informed, harm-reduction, and strength-based approach is emphasized throughout, with sensitivity to cultural contexts. A cumulative practicum ensures preparation for integrated practice within the health care system.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: This post-baccalaureate certificate requires applicants to already hold a baccalaureate degree or diploma in child and youth care, education, nursing, occupational therapy, psychology, or social work, plus a baccalaureate-level academic writing course such as NLC's ENGL 100 or an equivalent; the college notes that alternative credentials or experience in human and health services may be considered on contacting Admissions. No IELTS, TOEFL, or other language test score is published for this program. Once admitted, students must maintain a 2.33 program Grade Point Average, a 'B+' minimum in IMHA 311/PSYC 220, and a 'C+' minimum in all other courses. Before beginning practice components, students must hold a clearance letter from the Criminal Records Review Program for a Schedule B Criminal Record Check covering work with children and vulnerable adults. The certificate is delivered part-time online with a Fall intake, comprising 19 credits (545 hours) completable in as little as 10 months.

Application Deadline:Northern Lights College uses one admissions calendar for domestic and international applicants alike, applying through EducationPlannerBC or in person. Applications open about eleven months before each intake: 1 October for the following Fall, 1 February for the following Winter, and 1 June for the following Spring. For the 2027 cycle the priority deadline is 30 September 2026 for Winter 2027 entry, 31 January 2027 for Spring 2027 entry, and 31 May 2027 for Fall 2027 entry (dual-credit applicants get until 24 October 2026 and 23 June 2027 respectively), with a tuition deposit due about a month after each priority date. NLC states international applicants already in Canada on a valid visa follow the same domestic deadlines; after the priority date, seats remain open, on a rolling basis, until each term's add/drop date. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
