Program details

Overview

Spanning two years of university-level coursework, this associate degree combines broad general education with deeper study in a chosen discipline, preparing students for further academic work. Requirements remain flexible enough to allow completion of prerequisites needed for upper-level courses in an intended major, with options including oenology and viticulture, computer science, mathematics and statistics, or biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Okanagan College's Associate of Science Degree admits applicants with B.C. secondary-school graduation or the equivalent, or who are 19 and out of secondary school for one year by the first day of classes. English 12 at a minimum of 60 per cent, or an approved alternative, is required; applicants below that mark may still enrol but cannot register in first-year English courses until the requirement is met within their first year. Mathematics requires 50 per cent in Pre-Calculus 12, Principles of Mathematics 12, or Adult Basic Education MATH 012, or 64 per cent on the Calculus Readiness Test; students short of this cannot register in CHEM 111, COSC 111, MATH 112 or PHYS 111, and Okanagan College's own MATH 120 (Pre-Calculus) is recommended to close the gap. No IELTS, TOEFL or similar score is published. Students with secondary-school calculus may sit the regional UBC-SFU-UVic-UNBC Calculus Examination, for a non-refundable $88 fee, for possible MATH 112 credit.
