Overview
The Kinesiology Diploma focuses on the skills that you can apply to a variety of career options in fitness, recreation, sport, education and health. You can choose to specialize in fitness, recreation, education, or general studies. Course credits transfer towards Bachelor degree programs in British Columbia and elsewhere. Upon graduation, you can become a recreation coordinator or certified personal trainer, or pursue further education.

Admission Requirements: Regular applicants have graduated from secondary school or the equivalent, or are in Grade 12 now.
B.C. secondary-school graduation or the equivalent.
English 12 at 60 per cent, or an accepted alternative.
Chemistry 11 or the advanced-level ABE chemistry course.
One of Biology 12, Anatomy and Physiology 12, BIOL 122, BIOL 124, Biology 11 or Life Sciences 11, or the equivalent advanced- or provincial-level ABE course; Anatomy and Physiology 12, Biology 12 or BIOL 122 is the College's strong recommendation.
Mathematics: 50 per cent in one of Pre-Calculus 11, Foundations of Mathematics 11, Principles of Mathematics 11, ABE MATH 011, ABE MATH 085, ABE MATH 080 or ABE IALG 011, or 60 per cent on the College's Mathematics Proficiency Exam for Kinesiology.
Mature applicants: at least 19 years old and away from full-time secondary school for at least a year; secondary graduation is waived but the same course requirements apply, and they can be completed through Okanagan College Adult Basic Education, the Ministry of Education correspondence branch or a secondary school.
International applicants who cannot present English 12 satisfy the same English line through the College's test table at the 60 per cent level: IELTS Academic 6.0 with no band under 6.0, TOEFL 79 internet-based, CAEL 60, PTE Academic 56 with no communicative skill under 55, or Duolingo 105; results must be under two years old.
Two program-specific forms are also required from every applicant: the Kinesiology Verification of Experience form, documenting either one season of competitive sport or 50 hours of regular physical activity within the last five years; and the Kinesiology Medical Clearance form, confirming clearance for unrestricted physical activity, or for progressive activity with stated limits.
Practical note: laboratory and applied-methods classes involve vigorous exercise, with students acting as both leader and participant, so a good level of fitness is expected throughout. Some classes run at off-campus fitness and recreation facilities, so plan for transport, and basic computer skills are recommended for the coursework. Entry to the co-operative education work term requires completing all first-year courses in the fitness, health science, recreation or education option with a 70 per cent overall GPA; co-op is not open to the general studies option.
