Simon Fraser University offers Health Sciences: Master of Science (MSc), a master's degree in Health Sciences programme in Burnaby, Canada. The programme runs for 6 semesters, delivered on campus. Teaching is in English. Tuition for international students is CAD 2,107 per semester (CAD 2,107 per semester for local students).
The Faculty of Health Sciences' MSc combines two required interdisciplinary seminars with at least two supervisor-approved electives, then moves into a thesis proposal, a written thesis and a formal defence, with full-time students typically finishing in about six terms. Faculty research spans a wide range, including global, environmental and occupational health, toxicology and epidemiology, biostatistics and health promotion, maternal and child health, infectious and chronic disease, mental health and substance use, and the social and policy dimensions of health and aging, giving students a broad set of supervisors to choose from. All admitted MSc students receive some form of financial support through scholarships, teaching positions or research grants, and strong performers can transfer into the faculty's PhD program rather than finishing the master's first.
Requirements
Minimum GPA:3.00 / 4.33
Admission Requirements: Health Sciences MSc applicants normally need a complete baccalaureate degree equivalent to SFU's four-year bachelor's, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (or 3.33 on the final 60 credits); a degree still in progress at the time of application must be finished before the program starts, and graduate coursework already completed may be factored into the GPA calculation. English-language proficiency must be demonstrated through an examination meeting Faculty of Graduate Studies standards unless the applicant is exempt; since the Faculty's admissions page does not publish its own scores, SFU's institution-wide thresholds apply (IELTS Academic 6.5 overall, 6.0 per band; TOEFL iBT 90 overall, 20 per section). A confirmed faculty supervisor within the Faculty of Health Sciences is mandatory and applications without one are not considered.
