The Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) program curriculum is designed to prepare the student for work within the clinical laboratory. Curriculum and program objectives are built based on the state of practice in the BC medical laboratory community, and on competencies established by the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) for entry-level medical laboratory technology. The program provides theoretical, practical and clinical learning experiences. In this competency-based model, students have the opportunity to first practice, and then demonstrate, competency in a variety of clinical testing domains. Students prove competence through experiences in a clinical setting. Successful completion of this program requires proof of competence in all aspects of the general competency profile for CAMPLR Entry-to-Practice as a medical laboratory technologist. The Principles of Regenerative Building microcredential will train professionals to deliver low-impact buildings needed to achieve net zero energy and carbon targets. Many of the strategies that enhance a building’s resilience — such as independence from energy grids and the ability to withstand climate-influenced events — are also low-carbon strategies, as they negate the need for carbon-emitting energy and new materials.

This microcredential will focus on switching technologies and router operations that are needed to support small-to-medium business networks including wireless local area networks (WLANs) and security concepts. Students will learn key switching and routing concepts, perform basic network configuration and troubleshooting, identify, and mitigate LAN security threats, and configure and secure a basic WLAN.

The BCIT Breast Sonography Microcredential will prepare locally employed registered general sonographers (CRGS, RDMS) to work in this specialized area of sonography. In partnership with the British Columbia Health Authorities, students will begin their training at BCIT by attending online classes and an in-person workshop. Students will be supported in clinical at their worksite or through the Health Authority.

Web Development Foundations (WDF) is a microcredential aimed at those, with no related experience, who want to learn to build web pages and websites by hand. Students with no web coding background will be introduced to web scripting languages and tools by industry experts. The Distribution Design for Electrical Utilities Microcredential program was created to meet the increasing need for distribution design specialists. Based on basic knowledge of electrical technology, the program will develop students’ knowledge and skills so they can design simple overhead or underground distribution systems using industry standards and guidelines. These courses will provide critical skills related to the design of equipment, which will allow Canada to move towards the electrification of transportation and inclusion of small wind and solar resources in the grid. Applied Circular Economy: Zero Waste Buildings will train professionals who can deliver the low-impact buildings needed to achieve net-zero targets. The micro-credential will consist of three courses: Deconstruction (material recovery and working with salvage); Design for Disassembly (the principles of DfD and Cradle to Cradle (C2C); and Construction Material Flow Analysis (understanding the industry and the path of materials through it). The Computer Systems Diploma introduces object-oriented design problems and building applications in C++, along with using Algorithms, design patterns and higher-level computing skills. Additionally, you'll work in teams and gain hands-on experience with security foundations, how to leverage data communications and operating systems in advanced software and web applications. There is also a foundation of project management, and statistics along with an overview of the Canadian legal system applying to IT issues, copyright, trademarks and privacy. The purpose of the CST Diploma is to provide advanced programming skills for application, web, and systems development in order to prepare students for intermediate Computing careers. Once you graduate, you may move on to the CST Bachelor of Technology or look for employment in the IT industry.

The Computer Information Technology (CIT) Diploma program aims to train you to be a technical expert in various computing technologies including database, network administration, web technology, and security. Graduates will be IT specialists responsible for planning, deployment, administration, and configuration of computing infrastructures for organizations.

The Computer Information Systems Administration (CISA) Diploma is a full-time program that provides you with a comprehensive skill set geared towards administration of computer networks and system. The program focuses on Information Technology (IT) infrastructure solutions rather than computer engineering or software development. Training comprises of both theory and practical experience, where the goal is to have the you develop a skill set to be able to install, configure, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot systems and hardware. Once you graduate, you might find employment with partners of manufacturers like Cisco, HP, and IBM, or with Internet Service Providers, government, hositals, airports, or many others.

The Cardiovascular Perfusion Advanced Certificate program can help further develop your skills, as a certified respiratory therapist, critical care nurse, cardiac professional or related degree graduate. You'll gain a strong understanding of cardiothoracic anatomy, physiology and pharmacology, with an emphasis on cardiothoracic pathophysiology, as well as surgical techniques, to prepare for clinical rotations. The Broadcast and Online Journalism Diploma will help you develop interviewing skills and announcing techniques, hone your writing, and learn how to deliver compelling news stories. Courses and experiences, including industry internships, are designed to give you the ability and confidence to start and succeed in your journalism career. You'll take courses in video journalism and editing, news reporting and writing, on-air performance, web design, and more. After graduation, you'll be prepared to find work in online and in traditional print, TV, and radio journalism.

The Diagnostic Medical Sonography Diploma program offers comprehensive training in both general and cardiac ultrasound through a blend of theory, lab work, and clinical experience. Students receive instruction in key areas such as anatomy, instrumentation, patient care, and communication. Depending on the chosen option - Cardiac Sonography, General Sonography, or General and Cardiac Sonography - students begin to specialize in their second year or term, preparing them to work in cardiac imaging, general ultrasound, or both upon graduation.

The Full-Stack Web Development Diploma offers hands-on experience, equipping you with the skills needed to work on all layers of web technology and preparing you for the many opportunities in this fast-growing and high-demand field. Project experience with designers in a separate program enables FSWD graduates to bring a unique perspective and ability that industry requires and needs: the capacity to work effectively within a collaborative, interdisciplinary team environment.

The Advanced Certificate in Forensic Investigation, Digital Forensics and Cybersecurity Option, trains you to be a specialist in computer forensics, handling information extraction and knowing how to identify information that is useful in a legal case and how to explain and present it in court. You'll take courses in criminal law, forensic evidence imaging and acquisition, cybersecurity, digital forensics, network security, cryptography, and more. Upon graduating, you will be able to function independently in roles such as police detective, provincial investigator, corporate security manager, and others, and as a member of multi-disciplinary teams composed of financial and investigative professionals.

The Food Safety Associate Certificate is for people who are already working in food industry, but are looking for career development, professional growth, and résumé relevancy. You can complete the certificate or just take courses as you need, and will be able to use your new training directly at your workplace. You may also be able to seek higher level positions in areas like quality assurance planning, food process and operations, and food industry management and supervision.

The FWR program provides students with relevant and practical hands-on learning through field labs and classroom experiences. Learning outcomes are aligned with current needs of government, the conservation and stewardship community and private industry. Faculty liaisons and partnerships with industry, and input from the FWR Program Advisory Committee, ensure that learning outcomes reflect the needs for managing natural renewable resources in urban, rural, and wild land environments. In Year One (first and second terms), the program provides students with a solid academic foundation and basic field skills for careers in renewable resources. The overall objective of course content and assignments in the first year is to create an understanding of the ecosystems in BC, renewable resource assessment, management, and inventory methods and standards. This sets the foundation for Year Two (third and fourth terms) where students focus primarily on fish, wildlife, natural landscapes and parks and outdoor recreation management. During this second year, students spend as much time in the field as they do in the classroom. A significant part of the second year is centered on a year-long applied research project. The project is done in groups of three and is normally undertaken for an external client (e.g., government agency, NGO). Upon completion of the diploma, graduates receive a Diploma of Technology and with work experience, can apply for a professional designation as a Registered Professional Biology Technologist (RPBTech) with the BC College of Applied Biology. Graduates of the FWR Diploma program are also eligible for entry in the BCIT Bachelor’s Degree in Ecological Restoration and Environmental Engineering.

The Industry Partnership Certificate in Fire Executive Management will provide you with the business administration and management skills necessary to step into leadership and administration roles in BC’s Fire Departments. This program is designed to complement the technical training you already have acquired through your work experience as a firefighter. Completion of the program can help qualify you for positions such as Fire Chief, Deputy Fire Chief, and other leadership or management positions with the first responder field.
