Overview
The Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology is about the planet Earth, its origin and evolution, its fundamental structure, the properties of minerals, rocks, and fluids of which it is composed, and the evolution of its biosphere. The program includes experiential learning and field work and provides the courses required for professional accreditation. Upon graduation, you'll be prepared for the pursuit of careers in the private sector, government, and post-graduate education.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: UBC's own admission page for Geology gives International Baccalaureate-specific prerequisites: IB Math Analysis and Approaches at SL or HL, or IB Math Applications and Interpretations at HL; one of IB Biology, IB Chemistry, or IB Physics; and Grade 11 or equivalent Chemistry and Physics, which may be waived with a grade of 5 in both IB Chemistry and the IB Mathematics course. For Canadian secondary-school applicants the applicable standard is UBC's published Bachelor of Science requirement: English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12, Pre-Calculus 12, Chemistry 11 and Physics 11, plus one of Anatomy & Physiology 12, Chemistry 12, or Physics 12. UBC publishes no institution-wide entry average. All applicants must meet UBC's English Language Admission Standard: IELTS Academic overall 6.5 with no band below 6.0, TOEFL iBT overall 90 with a Writing minimum of 21, PTE Academic overall 65 with a minimum of 60 per skill, or Duolingo English Test overall 125.

Earlier dates apply only to entrance-award consideration -- 15 November 2026 for the International Scholars Program and 1 December 2026 for Presidential/Centennial/Beyond Tomorrow scholars. Several limited-entry programmes -- Law, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing (advanced entry), Occupational/Physical Therapy, Social Work and Teacher Education -- set their own earlier deadlines from October 2026 through February 2027. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
