Overview
The Bachelor of Arts Degree in Modern European Studies is an interdepartmental program. It offers you the opportunity to combine European languages, history, art, music, literature, philosophy, geography, sociology, anthropology, politics, and economics in a broadly based concentration that will extend and deepen your knowledge of European issues.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: The program page states no specific courses are required beyond UBC's general admission standards for the Faculty of Arts, so admission follows UBC's institution-wide rules. UBC publishes no institution-wide entry average; each program is assessed on its own competitive applicant pool using Grade 11 and 12 academic coursework. International applicants are admitted on a recognised university-preparation credential (a completed IB Diploma with three Higher Level courses, GCE A/AS Levels covering at least six subject areas including English, the Baccalaureat General or Francais International, the Singapore-Cambridge GCE, a Chinese senior secondary diploma with Gaokao results, or an equivalent twelve-year credential), and those from an English-medium secondary school must also show a final grade of at least 70 per cent in Grade 11 or 12 English. For all other applicants English proficiency is set by UBC's own standard: IELTS Academic 6.5 with no band below 6.0, TOEFL iBT 90 (22 reading/listening, 21 writing/speaking), PTE Academic 65 with no section below 60, Duolingo English Test 125, or CAEL 70.

Application Deadline:Domestic and international undergraduate applicants both apply through EducationPlannerBC for Winter Session 2027/28 (September 2027 entry) and Summer 2027: applications open in early October 2026 and the equal-consideration deadline is 15 January 2027, 11:59 p.m. PST, the same date for both groups; a few programs keep reviewing late applications on a space-available basis afterwards. Earlier dates apply only to entrance-award consideration -- 15 November 2026 for the International Scholars Program and 1 December 2026 for Presidential/Centennial/Beyond Tomorrow scholars. Several limited-entry programmes -- Law, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing (advanced entry), Occupational/Physical Therapy, Social Work and Teacher Education -- set their own earlier deadlines from October 2026 through February 2027. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
