Overview
The Bachelor of Arts in Canadian Studies, offered through the Faculty of Arts, examines Canada's political, economic, social, and cultural dimensions through an interdisciplinary lens rather than a single subject area, drawing on coursework in Canadian history, politics, film, archaeology, and ethnic and cultural studies to explore themes such as Canada's colonial past, Quebec nationalism, multiculturalism, and regionalism. The program is available at three levels: a BA General (90 credit hours, three years), suited to students planning to enter employment or a professional academic program directly; a BA Honours (120 credit hours, four years), which offers greater specialization and is recommended for those considering graduate study; and an 18-credit-hour minor. Both the General and Honours routes can be completed part-time, and the program is delivered at the Fort Garry campus in Winnipeg. Admission follows a direct-entry path for recent high school graduates or an advanced-entry path for applicants with 24 or more completed post-secondary credits, though meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance. The program suits students interested in government, communications, immigration, community development, law, education, or graduate study in history or urban planning.
Requirements
Minimum GPA:70.00 / %
Admission Requirements: Admission is first to the Faculty of Arts general B.A. program, not directly to a subject major. Direct Entry from high school requires Manitoba high school graduation with five full Grade 12 credits (S, G, or U) and a minimum 70% average over English 40S, Mathematics 40S, and two more academic 40S courses, with no less than 60% in each. Advanced Entry (transfer, 24+ credit hours) requires a minimum cumulative or adjusted GPA of 2.00 (or, under the Dean's Recommendation pathway, a 2.00 GPA on the best 24 transferable credit hours). Once admitted, a student may declare a Canadian Studies Major (30 credit hours) or Minor (18 credit hours) once its prerequisite is satisfied; the Faculty's rule for entry into any Major or Minor is a grade of C or better in the prerequisite course(s) for Canadian Studies.

No Fall 2027 Direct Entry deadline has been published yet, so specific 2027 dates cannot be stated for the university's main intake.
