Overview
UBC's School of Audiology and Speech Sciences offers an entry-to-practice MSc in either audiology or speech-language pathology, spanning 24 to 36 months and grounding graduates in both the basic science of communication disorders and its clinical relevance so they can address complex cases within an interdisciplinary framework. Coursework typically exceeds the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies' 30-credit minimum, running 45 to 50 credits for audiology and 50 to 55 credits for speech-language pathology, and alternates university-based study with supervised clinical practice in the community. Students must pass Clinical Externships I through IV at 68% (B-) or higher and complete at least the minimum clinical-practice hours required for certification by Canadian professional associations; audiology students finish with either a thesis or a comprehensive examination, while speech-language pathology is also offered at a Victoria site alongside Vancouver. A related PhD, open to holders of a master's degree in audiology, speech sciences, psychology, linguistics or a related field, requires at least 12 credits beyond the master's plus a comprehensive examination and dissertation.

Admission Requirements: The program follows UBC's general graduate entrance standard: a four-year undergraduate degree from a recognized university with a minimum overall average in the B+ range (76% at UBC) in third- and fourth-year courses, or at least 12 credits of third/fourth-year coursework in the A range (80% or higher). The School of Audiology & Speech Sciences additionally requires the prerequisite course AUDI 402 (or equivalent) for the Audiology stream, and both AUDI 402 and AUDI 403 (or equivalents) for the Speech-Language Pathology stream, completed within the past 10 years. Non-native English speakers without four continuous years of English-medium post-secondary study must submit, within the last 24 months, TOEFL iBT with an overall score of 100 (Reading 22, Writing 21, Speaking 21, Listening 22) or IELTS Academic with an overall score of 7.0 and no component below 6.0.
