Overview
The UBC International MBA is a part-time master's degree that UBC Sauder's Robert H. Lee Graduate School delivers in Shanghai together with the Antai College of Economics and Management at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Students complete the program over 20 months while keeping their careers in China, taking classes from UBC Sauder faculty on the Shanghai Jiao Tong campus and travelling to Vancouver for a two-week residency that pairs study with professional development. The curriculum is designed to bring the contemporary business world into the classroom, with professional development built into the modules and an international outlook throughout. Each cohort starts in November, and graduates receive the UBC IMBA degree; the school's membership in the Global Network for Advanced Management, the only Canadian one, extends the network available to students well beyond the two partner institutions.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission to UBC Sauder's International MBA requires a bachelor's degree or recognized equivalent from an accredited institution with acceptable academic performance (a four-year degree is typically required, though three-year degrees from Australia, New Zealand, the U.K. and Europe are accepted), plus a minimum of two years of full-time work experience gained after graduating; the admissions page describes a B+, 76% or 3.3 average, and five-plus years of work experience as competitive benchmarks rather than hard minimums. GMAT or GRE scores are not always mandatory but may be requested when transcripts or work experience do not show sufficient quantitative preparedness; where cited, competitive scores are 515 on the GMAT with at least the 50th percentile in verbal, quantitative and data-insight sections, or 155 on both GRE sections. Candidates whose degree is from outside Canada or the U.S. in a language other than English must present one of: IELTS Academic 6.5+, TOEFL iBT 80+ (4.0+ on UBC's 1-6 scale), Duolingo English Test 130, PTE Academic/Online 70, CAEL 70 overall, or UBC ELI 5+. Evaluation also weighs essays and letters of recommendation. The program starts every November, with the final round of applications due September 20, 2026.
Application Details
Start Date:November
Application Deadline:Domestic and international undergraduate applicants both apply through EducationPlannerBC for Winter Session 2027/28 (September 2027 entry) and Summer 2027: applications open in early October 2026 and the equal-consideration deadline is 15 January 2027, 11:59 p.m. PST, the same date for both groups; a few programs keep reviewing late applications on a space-available basis afterwards. Earlier dates apply only to entrance-award consideration -- 15 November 2026 for the International Scholars Program and 1 December 2026 for Presidential/Centennial/Beyond Tomorrow scholars. Several limited-entry programmes -- Law, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing (advanced entry), Occupational/Physical Therapy, Social Work and Teacher Education -- set their own earlier deadlines from October 2026 through February 2027. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
