Overview
The Food Safety Management micro-courses provide you with job-ready skills to start a career in the food industry, or enhance your knowledge and progress in your career. You will gain important skills and competencies needed to assist food manufacturing, food distributors and food service outlets with their comprehensive food safety and quality programs. The micro-courses are flexible and will elevate your knowledge and skills as a member of a quality assurance team in the food production industry.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Entry to this micro-certificate, offered jointly by UBC's Faculty of Land and Food Systems and BCIT, requires only a high-school diploma and English-language proficiency; neither the program's own page nor its UBC continuing-education course listing publishes a specific IELTS or TOEFL score for it. It is aimed at working professionals and recent graduates seeking careers in quality assurance in the food and beverage processing industry, and no prior food-science coursework, minimum GPA, portfolio or interview is required to begin the first course. The one internal prerequisite the curriculum sets is sequential: the Internal Auditor Training course requires prior completion of FoodCert020 (Food Safety Management Principles, Laws and Regulations). Courses are delivered online, self-paced, at roughly 12 hours of work per week, and students who complete all three UBC courses plus the BCIT course earn the joint UBC/BCIT micro-certificate.

Application Deadline:Domestic and international undergraduate applicants both apply through EducationPlannerBC for Winter Session 2027/28 (September 2027 entry) and Summer 2027: applications open in early October 2026 and the equal-consideration deadline is 15 January 2027, 11:59 p.m. PST, the same date for both groups; a few programs keep reviewing late applications on a space-available basis afterwards. Earlier dates apply only to entrance-award consideration -- 15 November 2026 for the International Scholars Program and 1 December 2026 for Presidential/Centennial/Beyond Tomorrow scholars. Several limited-entry programmes -- Law, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing (advanced entry), Occupational/Physical Therapy, Social Work and Teacher Education -- set their own earlier deadlines from October 2026 through February 2027. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
