Offered by the Branch for Global Surgical Care in UBC's Faculty of Medicine, this 12-credit graduate certificate is for surgeons and allied health professionals at any career stage, whether they practise in well-resourced or low-resource settings, who want to take on leadership and advocacy roles in global surgical care. The certificate is made up of four three-credit courses, each delivered fully online over 12 weeks: program planning and evaluation for surgical care in low-resource settings, surgical care in humanitarian disaster response, global disability as a surgical care mandate, and surgical care in international health. It is coursework-only and can be completed full-time in a single year or part-time over as long as five years, within the Department of Surgery.

Admission Requirements: UBC's graduate programme page for the Graduate Certificate in Global Surgical Care (GCGSC) states no course-specific admission test or grade of its own and points applicants to the Branch for Global Surgical Care's own site, which lists the certificate's four courses but likewise states no separate academic threshold; the programme is open to surgeons and allied health professionals with all levels of expertise in surgical care from both high- and low-resource settings. Applicants therefore meet UBC Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies' general minimum: a four-year Honours or Bachelor's degree with a B+ average in third- and fourth-year coursework (a three-year Bologna-compliant European degree is considered case by case). English-language proficiency: UBC's IELTS Program Minimum Requirements table lists the GCGSC at IELTS Academic overall 6.5 with no component below 6.0; the certificate is not separately listed on the TOEFL table, so UBC's standard TOEFL iBT minimum of 90 applies, with component minimums of 22 in reading and listening and 21 in writing and speaking. The 12-credit, fully online certificate can be taken full-time over one year or part-time over up to five, and its courses ladder into the Master of Global Surgical Care.

Application Deadline:Domestic and international undergraduate applicants both apply through EducationPlannerBC for Winter Session 2027/28 (September 2027 entry) and Summer 2027: applications open in early October 2026 and the equal-consideration deadline is 15 January 2027, 11:59 p.m. PST, the same date for both groups; a few programs keep reviewing late applications on a space-available basis afterwards. Earlier dates apply only to entrance-award consideration -- 15 November 2026 for the International Scholars Program and 1 December 2026 for Presidential/Centennial/Beyond Tomorrow scholars. Several limited-entry programmes -- Law, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing (advanced entry), Occupational/Physical Therapy, Social Work and Teacher Education -- set their own earlier deadlines from October 2026 through February 2027. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
