Overview
The Doctor of Medicine (MD) equips you with the knowledge, training, and experience you need to meet the health care challenges of today and tomorrow. As an MD student, you'll work alongside faculty members and physicians to learn the foundations of medicine and patient-centred care, while honing your clinical skills at hospital wards, community clinics, and doctors’ offices in urban and rural settings across British Columbia. During the clinical years of the program (years three and four), you’ll work in hospital wards, community clinics, and doctors’ offices across BC, meeting patients and working closely with a wide range of health professionals. You'll also have the opportunity to partake in a variety of initiatives to further develop your skills. Graduates have successfully secured medical residency positions in areas ranging from family medicine and pediatrics, to cardiology and emergency medicine.

Admission Requirements: Admission is set by the Faculty of Medicine's own MD Admission requirements. Applicants need a minimum of 90 graded university-level credits completed by 30 April of the application year, with a minimum overall academic average of 70% across all university-level coursework; the calculation applies an adjusted average that can drop up to 30 credits of the lowest grades, provided 90 graded credits remain. All applicants must take the MCAT, meeting the minimum component scores the admissions committee sets for that cycle, with the best sitting used if taken more than once; CASPer is not required. Prerequisite coursework includes one English course (Literature or Academic Writing, minimum 3 credits) plus, depending on entry year, either a Canadian Indigenous Studies course or a further English Literature course. Admission is restricted to Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or persons with refugee status, with preference to British Columbia residents and a maximum of 10% of seats open to out-of-province applicants; shortlisted candidates are assessed by Multiple Mini Interview.

Application Deadline:Domestic and international undergraduate applicants both apply through EducationPlannerBC for Winter Session 2027/28 (September 2027 entry) and Summer 2027: applications open in early October 2026 and the equal-consideration deadline is 15 January 2027, 11:59 p.m. PST, the same date for both groups; a few programs keep reviewing late applications on a space-available basis afterwards. Earlier dates apply only to entrance-award consideration -- 15 November 2026 for the International Scholars Program and 1 December 2026 for Presidential/Centennial/Beyond Tomorrow scholars. Several limited-entry programmes -- Law, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing (advanced entry), Occupational/Physical Therapy, Social Work and Teacher Education -- set their own earlier deadlines from October 2026 through February 2027. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
