Overview

Advanced Education in Orthopedics for LPN is a post-diploma certificate at NorQuest College for Licensed Practical Nurses seeking specialized orthopedic training. The program consists of four theory courses, one lab, and an in-depth clinical practicum covering anatomy, radiology, assessment, and interventions for adult and pediatric orthopedic patients, including casting, bracing, and traction. It runs three terms and includes 300 hours of clinical placement (220 hours in a cast clinic and 80 hours in an emergency room). Delivery is online with scheduled in-person labs and clinical placements, and intakes run monthly across the fall, winter, and spring terms. The certificate is described as the only program of its kind in Alberta and one of two in Canada, and graduates require College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta approval for advanced authorization before practice. The program is not currently open to international students.
