Overview
Communication and Culture is a Doctor of Philosophy offered jointly by Toronto Metropolitan University and York University through the Yeates School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, examining the relationship between communication, media, politics and culture through interdisciplinary research. The programme is delivered in person at TMU's downtown Toronto campus, with access to York University, on a full-time basis over four years, beginning in the Fall term. Admission requires a master's degree in communication and cultural studies or a related discipline with foundational training in the social sciences, humanities, fine arts, media production or communication technology, along with a minimum grade average of B+ in the applicant's previous two years of coursework. Doctoral students may pursue research-creation work blending critical theory with creative practice. Graduates are prepared for academic and research roles as well as positions in policy, government and the creative and media industries.
