Master of Science (Mathematics)

The Master of Science in Mathematics (M. Sc.) is a two-year, 45-credit thesis-based graduate degree offered by Universite de Moncton at its Moncton campus, with an applied focus. Students complete a 33-credit thesis and a mathematical-reading seminar as mandatory coursework, plus nine elective credits chosen from graduate mathematics courses or approved courses in related disciplines. The program develops rigorous mathematical reasoning, practical problem-solving skills and independent research ability. Each student must secure a thesis supervisor by the end of their second session and works with a three-member advisory committee; the completed thesis is examined by a four-member jury that includes an external examiner. Graduates are prepared for doctoral studies or employment requiring advanced mathematical training and research experience. The mandatory reading seminar exposes students to current research literature in preparation for their own thesis topic.
