Overview
This is a combined, accelerated five-year program leading to two undergraduate degrees, a Bachelor of Education and a Bachelor of Science with a major in Mathematical Sciences, offered at the University of Alberta's Campus Saint-Jean, the province's only French-language postsecondary institution. It is designed to address the shortage of French-language and science teachers at the secondary level, letting students complete a science degree and a teaching credential together rather than sequentially. Instruction takes place at Campus Saint-Jean, which offers small class sizes, academic scholarships, and research opportunities. Graduates are prepared to teach mathematics and related subjects in Francophone or French-immersion secondary schools, and commonly pursue roles such as secondary mathematics teacher, education administrator, education consultant, guidance counsellor, extracurricular coordinator, or special-education teacher.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Direct entry from Alberta high school; instruction is in French, so French proficiency is required. Required Grade 12 courses: Mathematics 30-1; one French course (Francais 30-1, Francais 30-2, French 30-9Y, French 31, or French Language Arts 30-1/30-2); Chemistry 30; Physics 30; and one further course from English Language Arts 30-1, Humanities, or Languages other than English.
