This program awards a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Calgary's Faculty of Science, delivered on campus. Instruction combines classroom study, tutorials, and laboratory work, building experimental technique alongside theoretical understanding of chemical structure, bonding, and reactivity. First-year courses cover chemical equilibrium and structure and bonding together with calculus, mechanics, and electromagnetism, giving students a foundation that connects chemistry to biology, mathematics, and physics. The curriculum emphasizes active problem-solving and hands-on scientific investigation, preparing students to pursue independent research as they advance. The program suits students drawn to laboratory science and to questions about how everyday products are developed, made safer, and made more sustainable. Career paths mentioned include work in fuel development, plastics, pharmaceuticals, battery technology, and advanced materials. The degree also serves as a foundation for graduate studies or for professional programs in law, medicine, veterinary medicine, or dentistry.
