BA/BS in Drama

The Drama program at the University of Calgary is a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree exploring how theatre reflects and shapes contemporary culture. Coursework spans scenography, acting, playwriting, directing, design, and dramaturgy, together with the history of theatre and studies in performance creation and Canadian drama; the first year follows a structure set out in the Fine Arts Degree Guide. Students gain regular exposure to industry practitioners and hands-on production experience in live performance, and study-abroad opportunities are available for further cultural and academic exposure. Delivered through the Faculty of Arts, the program combines practical training with theoretical study of theatre's cultural role. It suits students pursuing careers as theatre artists, designers, directors, or arts administrators, and also serves as a foundation for further study in fields such as education, law, medicine, architecture, or digital game design.
