Program details
Overview
This undergraduate program leads to a Bachelor of Commerce (BComm) with a concentration in finance through the Haskayne School of Business. Students examine questions such as what drives interest rates and how businesses are valued, developing skills with spreadsheet and statistical software through live projects, formal presentations, group projects, and case studies. Core courses include Financial Management, Introduction to Business Analytics, Principles of Macroeconomics, and Principles of Microeconomics. The program includes a co-operative work placement option, where students alternate paid full-time work experience with academic terms, along with study-abroad opportunities for cultural and academic experiences and mentorship connections with established professionals. Graduates are prepared for career opportunities in banking, securities, and international finance, and the degree can also serve as a stepping stone toward graduate studies or professional programs such as law, medicine, or veterinary medicine. The program suits students who want to combine financial theory with practical, real-world application, including those interested in international experience and professional networking. Instruction is delivered on campus at the University of Calgary.
