Overview
Mathematical Finance is an undergraduate program at the University of Waterloo leading to a Bachelor of Mathematics in Mathematical Finance within the Faculty of Mathematics. The curriculum covers the mathematics behind financial markets, including corporate finance, quantitative risk management, mathematical analysis, and statistical forecasting. Upper-year coursework draws on actuarial science, statistics, and pure mathematics, alongside electives in business, economics, accounting, computing, and differential equations, giving students a combination of applied mathematics and finance training. Students share first-year mathematics courses with other Faculty of Mathematics programs before the curriculum shifts toward finance-focused coursework in upper years. The regular program is completed in four years, while the co-op option extends to five years, alternating academic terms with paid work terms related to the field.
