Program details
Overview
This is a Bachelor of Arts in Language and Culture at the University of Calgary, delivered through the Faculty of Arts. Students focus on one or two language areas, choosing from Arabic language and Muslim cultures, German, Italian or Russian, combining language study with literary and cultural coursework and cross-linguistic, cross-cultural and comparative core courses. The program builds language proficiency, intercultural capacity, research skills and the ability to synthesize knowledge across disciplines. Options include a co-operative work placement, an honours degree track involving in-depth study of a specific topic under faculty supervision, and study abroad opportunities. It suits students interested in developing proficiency in a specific language alongside its literary and cultural context, preparing graduates for careers in global affairs, translation or organizational diversity work, or for further study in graduate or professional programs.

Admitting averages are calculated using four approved courses for early admission and the full course set above for standard admission. No test, portfolio, or audition is listed for this program.
Application Details
Application Deadline:For Fall 2027 entry, the University of Calgary opens undergraduate applications for domestic applicants on 1 October 2026 and for international applicants on 15 August 2026, both closing on the same firm application deadline of 1 March 2027, with supporting documents due by 15 March 2027 and offers accepted by 1 May 2027. International applicants follow the identical March 1 deadline; the university publishes no separate, later international closing date. Applications are not accepted on a rolling basis after the deadline for most direct-entry programmes, though a small number of programmes (e.g. Nursing) run further selection rounds into the summer while space remains. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
