Overview
The Bachelor of Secwepemc Language Fluency is a two-year degree completed at UBC Okanagan following the Secwepemc Language diploma at Nicola Valley Institute of Technology (NVIT); together the diploma and degree form a four-year pathway built through collaboration between Secwepemc communities, NVIT, the En'owkin Centre, and UBC Okanagan to sustain and revitalize the Secwepemc language. The program is fully immersive, combining advanced language study with instructional-capacity building and Indigenous ways of knowing, and draws on community language experts throughout the curriculum. It opens with a mandatory summer transition course in which incoming students stay on campus in UBC residence and connect with other Indigenous students and campus services. The final year includes an internship with a community partner and a personal language project. Students may also apply for Undergraduate Research Awards.
