Program details
Overview
This program leads to a Bachelor of Science with a major in Mathematics at the University of Calgary, delivered on campus through the Faculty of Science. Students study core mathematical and statistical fundamentals before encountering subdisciplines such as abstract algebra, analysis, differential equations, geometry, number theory, probability, and stochastic processes, alongside applied areas including biostatistics and machine learning. Early courses include introductory calculus, linear algebra, discrete mathematics, statistical inquiry, and programming with data. Teaching emphasizes active problem-solving through classwork, tutorials, and assignments rather than lecture-only formats. The major suits students who enjoy abstract reasoning and quantitative problem-solving and who want flexibility to apply mathematics across other fields. Career paths mentioned include quantitative finance, industrial mathematics, software development, data science, teaching, and public-policy statistics, as well as academic research. The degree also functions as a pathway into graduate study in mathematics, statistics, engineering, physics, or computer science, or into professional programs such as education, law, medicine, veterinary medicine, or architecture.

Application Details
Application Deadline:For Fall 2027 entry, the University of Calgary opens undergraduate applications for domestic applicants on 1 October 2026 and for international applicants on 15 August 2026, both closing on the same firm application deadline of 1 March 2027, with supporting documents due by 15 March 2027 and offers accepted by 1 May 2027. International applicants follow the identical March 1 deadline; the university publishes no separate, later international closing date.
