Overview
This undergraduate program leads to a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSc in Eng) through the Schulich School of Engineering. Students complete a common first year of ten courses in mathematics, sciences, computing, engineering principles, communications, and design before specializing in mechanical engineering. The curriculum covers computer-aided design, dynamics, solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, materials, machine dynamics, aerodynamics, mechatronics, control systems, robotics, and design, with most courses including hands-on laboratories that demonstrate concepts taught in class. Teaching emphasizes problem-based learning, group work, and open-ended design projects that create opportunities for industry interaction and entrepreneurship. Students may complete a minor in aerospace engineering, mechatronics engineering, manufacturing engineering, biomedical engineering, digital engineering, energy and environment, entrepreneurship and enterprise development, management and society, or petroleum engineering. The Engineering Career Centre provides access to career advisors and a 12-to-16-month paid work placement, and study-abroad opportunities are available. Admission Requirements: Entry is through the Schulich School of Engineering's common first year, not directly into Mechanical Engineering: students complete 10 common first-year courses and are then guaranteed their choice of major. Required courses for the common first year (Alberta high school): English Language Arts 30-1, Mathematics 30-1, Mathematics 31, Chemistry 30, and Physics 30 (Biology 30 may be used instead if a Physics-based offer cannot be made, with an added required Bioengineering Institute summer course). Estimated competitive admission average for the common first year: Low 90s. Equivalent IB, AP or other international curricula are accepted via the university's requirements tool.

Application Deadline:For Fall 2027 entry, the University of Calgary opens undergraduate applications for domestic applicants on 1 October 2026 and for international applicants on 15 August 2026, both closing on the same firm application deadline of 1 March 2027, with supporting documents due by 15 March 2027 and offers accepted by 1 May 2027. International applicants follow the identical March 1 deadline; the university publishes no separate, later international closing date. Applications are not accepted on a rolling basis after the deadline for most direct-entry programmes, though a small number of programmes (e.g. Nursing) run further selection rounds into the summer while space remains. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
