The PhD in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at the University of Calgary is a research-based doctoral program in the Schulich School of Engineering. Students conduct original research in manufacturing engineering, including computer-integrated manufacturing, robotics, and CAD/CAM/CAE systems, or in mechanical engineering, covering combustion and compressible flow. The program culminates in an original thesis defended before an examination committee, and students complete a candidacy examination and present their research at academic conferences during their studies. The program normally takes three years of full-time study for students entering with a master's degree, or four years for students admitted directly from a bachelor's degree. Admission requires a master's degree (MSc) or equivalent, a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale over the two most recent years of full-time study, two reference letters, and proof of English language proficiency for applicants whose first language is not English. The program admits students each September and January.
