Overview
This thesis-based Master of Science program in Microbiology and Infectious Diseases provides a foundation for doctoral studies and research-oriented careers. Research areas include lung infections in cystic fibrosis, systemic infections such as sepsis, molecular diagnostics and therapeutics, and vaccine development. Students complete two courses, attend research ethics and Sex & Gender Module training, present an annual seminar, defend a research proposal, and submit and defend a thesis. The program is based at the University of Calgary's Foothills Campus and normally takes two years of full-time study, with a maximum of four years permitted. Admission requires a four-year baccalaureate degree, or equivalent, from a recognized institution, a minimum GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale, and two reference letters. The program admits students in the May, September, and January terms.
