Overview

This Art History and Museum Studies program leads to a Bachelor of Arts and combines critical study of art history and theory with hands-on museum and gallery experience. Students engage with curation, exhibitions, collections management, public programming and artifact preservation, taking courses such as Introduction to Twentieth Century Art, Introduction to Indigenous and Canadian Art, and Exhibiting Cultures. The four-year program is delivered on the Lethbridge campus with a Fall intake, and gives students access to co-operative education, international exchanges, applied studies and volunteer opportunities, including internship placements that expose them to museum-sector work. Students draw on the university's own art gallery collection and exhibition spaces as part of their studies. It suits students interested in cultural institutions and visual art history, and can lead to roles such as gallery curator, art historian, museum curator or arts manager.
