Overview
The Art History program examines how art, architecture, and visual culture have communicated human understanding across different times and cultures, from the earliest discovered artefacts through the Medieval period to contemporary art around the world. Students study the historical development of art history as a field, along with its methodologies and critical theories. Coursework spans diverse periods, styles, and geographies, including Medieval art and architecture, Renaissance, Baroque, and Modern art history, contemporary visual culture, new media, and East Asian art history. The program is administered within the Faculty of Arts and allows students to focus on the periods, regions, or approaches that interest them most within the discipline. Graduates gain a broad grounding in art historical analysis applicable to further study or careers in curatorial work, cultural institutions, research, and related fields.
Requirements
