The Master of Arts in Slavic Studies is offered by the Department of German and Slavic Studies at the University of Manitoba, with study organized around German culture, literature, and second-language acquisition, and Russian and/or Ukrainian culture and literature. Each student's program of study is arranged individually in consultation with the department's Graduate Chair. Students must complete a minimum of 15 credit hours of coursework, including SLAV 7200 and six further credit hours at the 7000 level in the student's major discipline, plus six credit hours of ancillary coursework that may be taken at the 7000, 4000, 3000, or, in exceptional cases, 2000 level. All students complete a thesis, submitting a thesis prospectus at least two months before the thesis itself. Applicants who lack sufficient background may be admitted to a Pre-Master's program consisting of 24 credit hours of coursework, at least 12 of them in the major discipline. General admission follows the standards of the Faculty of Graduate Studies. Full-time students can expect to complete the degree in two years.
