Honours Bachelor of Human Kinetics - Education and Coaching - Studies of Social Issues in Sport, Physical Activity and Leisure Option

The Honours Bachelor of Human Kinetics – Education and Coaching, Studies of Social Issues in Sport, Physical Activity and Leisure option combines the Education and Coaching option's training in physical-activity, education and coaching interventions with a focus on critical analysis of sport, physical activity and leisure as vehicles for social change. Students examine the effect of social issues on sporting, physical and leisure practices and the impact of these practices on social change, including how power relations are enacted in these contexts. Coursework covers Functional Anatomy of Movement, Physical Activity in a Global Health Perspective, Sociology of Sport and Physical Activity in Canada, Introduction to Leisure Studies, Intervention Theories, Principles of Coaching, Introduction to Sport and Exercise Psychology, and Research Methods in Human Kinetics. Graduates pursue roles as recreation and fitness program leaders, sport coaches, physical and health education teachers, mental performance consultants, and exercise consultants and health promoters in community settings, as well as advocacy and policy roles. The program is offered in English and in French, with a French immersion stream available.
