Overview
This combined program leads to an Honours Bachelor of Science in Human Kinetics and a Master of Health Sciences in Occupational Therapy from the University of Ottawa, delivered in French, totalling 150 units — 90 for the Bachelor and 60 units for the Master's coursework-only route, or 63 units with a research project. The Bachelor component focuses on the biophysical sciences of human kinetics, examining the role of biological, anatomical, musculoskeletal and neuro-motor systems in motor performance. The Master's component, which normally runs over six consecutive full-time terms, or about two years, trains occupational therapists to help people engage or re-engage in activities that are important to them, and requires 1,000 hours of clinical training across placements in Ottawa-area institutions and other Canadian settings. Candidates are responsible for any fees associated with the CASPer and language tests.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Progression from the Honours Bachelor of Science in Human Kinetics into the Master of Health Sciences in Occupational Therapy requires a minimum cumulative grade point average of 8.5 for good academic standing, per the program's admission information in the university course catalogue. By the end of February of the third year, students must pass a language-proficiency test in the official language other than the language of instruction and achieve a satisfactory score on the CASPer personal-characteristics test. Admission to the dual fast-track degree program does not guarantee entry into the Master's program.
