Overview
Mathematics provides a foundation in both pure and applied mathematics, built around the study of quantity, structure, and space, and is designed to accommodate students drawn to abstract theory as well as those more interested in applied problem-solving. After a shared core covering calculus, linear algebra, statistics, and computing, students take further specialized mathematics coursework, with the option to concentrate in financial mathematics. The program is offered as a major or an honours track, and a co-operative education option lets students alternate classroom study with paid work placements. It is delivered on UPEI's Charlottetown campus through the School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences and leads to a Bachelor of Science. It suits students planning further graduate or professional study, or careers that draw on quantitative and analytical reasoning, and who want flexibility to lean toward either pure mathematical theory or applied, finance-oriented coursework.

Admission Requirements: Faculty of Science admission requires Grade 12 academic English, Grade 12 academic Mathematics, two Grade 12 academic science subjects (Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Computer Science, Oceanography, Animal Science or Environmental Science) and one further Grade 12 academic course; Grade 12 academic Chemistry (or equivalent) is required before registering in CHEM-1110. Application Deadline:UPEI has no shared provincial application service; domestic and international applicants both apply directly through the UPEI Application Portal, and most undergraduate programs (Arts, Science, Business) carry no fixed institution-wide closing date, with applications for the 2027 entry cycle assessed on a rolling basis until seats fill.
