Overview
This Bachelor of Kinesiology in Gerontology, offered through the Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies, combines exercise science with the study of aging over four years, with an Honours option available. Gerontology examines the social, psychological, and biological aspects of aging, and coursework covers exercise psychology, motor learning and control, biomechanics, and exercise physiology alongside aging-focused subjects. The program is one of the few in Canada to combine exercise science and gerontology in a single degree. A required 15-week, full-time fieldwork placement lets students apply classroom learning in a real-world aging-services setting before graduation. Faculty research areas include leisure and aging and musculoskeletal health. Graduates pursue roles such as health care professionals, geriatric aides, patient advocates, medical or health services managers, and social scientists working with older adult populations.
