Program details
Overview
This thesis-based master's program at the University of Regina examines the psychosocial and biological dimensions of aging, distinguishing itself among Canadian aging studies programs by incorporating biological perspectives alongside social and psychological ones. Students may graduate with a Master of Arts or a Master of Science, with the credential determined by the nature of their thesis research. The program draws on courses and research from at least three disciplines, delivered collaboratively across the Faculties of Arts, Kinesiology and Health Studies, Social Work, and Nursing. Coursework covers topics such as end-of-life issues, the physiology of aging, and patterns of health and illness in older adults, alongside a required thesis. Research within the department spans musculoskeletal health, brain disorders, chronic pain in seniors, dementia care, and community exercise programming for older adults. The program is delivered on campus in Regina, Saskatchewan. It suits students holding a four-year undergraduate degree in fields such as kinesiology, health studies, psychology, social work, nursing, gerontology, biology, or sociology, or a health professional degree, who want to pursue advanced study of aging from an interdisciplinary perspective. Graduates typically continue to doctoral studies or move into research, teaching, or clinical roles related to aging and older-adult care.

Admission Requirements: Admission to the interdisciplinary Master's program in Aging Studies (MA/MSc) requires a four-year undergraduate degree in kinesiology, health studies, psychology, social work, nursing, gerontology, biology, sociology, or a health professional degree; applicants who lack an undergraduate prerequisite for a specific aging-studies course may still be admitted and complete that prerequisite in parallel with graduate work. The program page defers general admission standards to the university's Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research (FGSR): a graduating average of at least 70% on the four-year degree is required, and international applicants must show English proficiency of CAEL 70, IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0, PTE Academic 59, or Duolingo English Test 125 overall.
Application Details
Application Deadline:Domestic applicants to the University of Regina apply for Fall 2027 entry with a recommended early deadline of 15 March 2027 for best course selection and a final new-applicant deadline of 15 August 2027; Winter 2027-28 entry has an early deadline of 1 November 2026 and a final deadline of 15 December 2026, and Spring/Summer 2027 entry closes 15 April 2027. International (study-permit) applicants share the same final deadlines as domestic students for each term but have no separate early deadline. Numerous named programs, including Nursing, Social Work, Bachelor of Indigenous Social Work, Indigenous Fine Arts and Indigenous Education, carry their own earlier deadlines instead of the general dates. Admission is not described as rolling; late non-competitive applications are simply carried to the next term the program accepts. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
