Overview
The Master of Indigenous Education at the University of Regina's Faculty of Education is normally completed over two years and offers three program structures: a thesis-based option introducing scholarly activity and independent original research, a project-based option that applies theory in the field, and a course-based option consisting of ten courses. The program prepares graduates to be effective educators and leaders in Indigenous education, teaching students how to conduct research with Indigenous peoples and how to integrate Indigenous knowledge into school curricula. Course options are increasingly delivered in blended and fully online formats alongside traditional instruction. The program targets teachers currently working in band or urban schools with high Indigenous student populations, as well as others with an interest in Indigenous education. Graduates become knowledgeable in Indigenization, decolonization, and reconciliation, and go on to work as teachers, university or polytechnic instructors, leaders, and administrators in elementary, secondary, and post-secondary institutions both on- and off-reserve, as well as in government roles related to Indigenous education.

Admission Requirements: The Master of Indigenous Education (MIEd) requires a four-year degree applicable to the program, normally a B.Ed., B.A.Ed., or equivalent, with a minimum grade point average of 70%; at least two years of teaching or other relevant professional experience is preferred but not stated as mandatory. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission, which is also subject to space. Holders of a Saskatchewan Professional 'A' Teaching Certificate with an approved bachelor's degree may use the completed degree to reclassify with their school board.
