Overview

The Ph.D. in Nursing at the University of Saskatchewan's College of Nursing is a research-focused doctoral program with an expected duration of four years, delivered through the same hybrid format used across the college's graduate offerings, combining live online classes, recorded lectures, and optional in-person sessions available in Saskatoon and Prince Albert. The program is built around independent research culminating in a dissertation, and it prepares graduates to work as nurse scholars who advance nursing as an academic, research, and practice discipline. Supervisor approval is not required before applying, giving prospective students flexibility to explore fit with the program before committing to a specific research direction. It suits registered nurses with an existing graduate nursing background who are aiming toward academic careers, senior research positions, or leadership roles that depend on original scholarly contribution to the discipline, rather than nurses seeking further clinical skills training alone. The hybrid delivery model allows students in Saskatoon, Prince Albert, or further afield to combine doctoral study with ongoing clinical or professional commitments.
