Overview

The Graduate Certificate in Indigenous Nation Building is a 9-credit-unit program offered by the Johnson-Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy at the University of Saskatchewan. It examines the traditional and modern governance approaches Indigenous nations use to assert self-determination and self-governance, including the effects of settler colonialism on Indigenous nationhood and Indigenous strategies of resistance, with an emphasis on Saskatchewan Indigenous nations. The program targets working professionals in Indigenous governments and organizations. Admission requires a four-year degree or equivalent, a cumulative weighted average of at least 70% in the last two years of study, a resume, a letter of intent, and three letters of reference. A non-standard admission pathway is available for applicants with at least ten years of work experience, including five years in management, and at least one year of higher education. International applicants must meet the university's English language proficiency requirements.

International applicants must meet the university's English language proficiency requirements (minimum overall TOEFL score of 86 with at least 20 in each area, or overall IELTS score of 6.5 with at least 6.0 in each area). Applicants without the standard academic background may qualify through non-standard admission with at least ten years of work experience, including five years of management experience, and at least one year of higher education.
