Program details

Overview

This certificate introduces the heritage that the Indian community in Canada has contributed, covering its social, cultural, and political dimensions, building an understanding of issues connected to the Indian subcontinent and its wider diaspora. The multi-disciplinary curriculum is structured to complement a student's main field of study and to look into a focused area of cultural knowledge that applies to both local and global communities.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: UFV's own Calendar entry sets the entrance requirements for the India-Canada Studies certificate, which is designed to be completed alongside another UFV program. Applicants need B.C. secondary school graduation or equivalent, or a minimum age of 19 by the first day of classes, and must meet UFV's Entry-level English language proficiency requirement, for example IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with no band below 5.5, or TOEFL iBT 80 with no section below 19. Applicants must also satisfy the prerequisites for the certificate's individual courses. Once enrolled, students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.00 to remain in good academic standing.

Application Details

Start Date: September, January and May
Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply directly to UFV: applications for Fall (September) 2027 entry open 1 October 2026, for Winter (January) 2027 entry opened 1 May 2026, and for Summer (May) 2027 entry open 1 October 2026; UFV publishes no closing date for any of these and instead admits many programmes strictly in application-date order once every required document has arrived, so applying soon after opening matters more than any deadline. Grade 12 students may apply from 1 October of their graduating year and must send final transcripts by 3 August. International applicants use UFV International's own windows - 1 October to 31 May for Fall, 1 May to 31 October for Winter and 1 October to 1 March for Summer - and are likewise assessed on a rolling, first-arrived basis until each programme fills. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
