Program details

Overview

This certificate offers a comprehensive accounting program aimed at mature students pursuing work in financial management or as an accounting technician. Core study spans auditing, income tax, business law, management accounting, statistics, and microeconomics, with an elective chosen according to the professional program a student intends to pursue afterward. Graduates can find work across government, non-profit organizations, businesses, financial institutions, and accounting firms.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: UFV's Academic Calendar sets out two routes into the Accounting Certificate. Applicants entering directly from secondary school need B.C. secondary school graduation or equivalent, or to be at least 19 years old before their first day of classes, plus the prerequisites for Academic Writing (CMNS 125) and Calculus for Business (MATH 141). Applicants entering on prior post-secondary study need the same CMNS 125 and MATH 141 prerequisites plus one of: nine credits at the 100 level or above with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00; a two-year post-secondary career/technical diploma with a minimum CGPA of 2.50; or a three- or four-year bachelor's degree with a minimum CGPA of 2.00. For math upgrading, MATH 094 and MATH 095, or MATH 096, at C+ or better are accepted. Neither pathway names a specific English-language test score on the program's own pages; applicants with proficiency questions are directed to UFV academic advising. The certificate is open to international students and starts in September.

Application Details

Start Date: September
Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply directly to UFV: applications for Fall (September) 2027 entry open 1 October 2026, for Winter (January) 2027 entry opened 1 May 2026, and for Summer (May) 2027 entry open 1 October 2026; UFV publishes no closing date for any of these and instead admits many programmes strictly in application-date order once every required document has arrived, so applying soon after opening matters more than any deadline. Grade 12 students may apply from 1 October of their graduating year and must send final transcripts by 3 August. International applicants use UFV International's own windows - 1 October to 31 May for Fall, 1 May to 31 October for Winter and 1 October to 1 March for Summer - and are likewise assessed on a rolling, first-arrived basis until each programme fills. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
